LCS Training Group, in addition to
licensing certification, provides basic property estimating, Xactimate®
training, and policy interpretation classes for the inexperienced person
seeking employment in the field of catastrophe, or "Cat" property claims
adjustment. These individuals are the first to be called out to a
storm site after a major event occurs.
This can include hurricanes, tornadoes, hail storms, floods, and
earthquakes. Damage from these events can be quite severe and the area
may be virtually uninhabitable. Properties may be heavily damaged and
difficult even to locate or reach after such an event. Indeed,
some structures such as homes and commercial buildings may no longer exist
if the event is severe enough.
The "Cat" adjuster must be prepared to go and stay as long as necessary to
complete the work at hand. He, or she, must be a self-starter, willing
to work long hours, and be prepared to leave home at a moment's notice.
They must also be in good physical health, not afraid of heights, and, most
importantly, be able to work with others in stressful situations.
This includes not only insureds, but insurance agents, other claims
personnel, and restoration company representatives.
The "Cat" adjuster needs to be financially able to support themselves for a
period of one to two months before receiving any pay from the company or
companies for whom they will be working. It will take some time for
the companies to receive, audit, approve, and issue payments for claims
handled during the storm work. The "Cat" adjuster will most likely
need to supply all of their own equipment necessary to do the work. A
list of equipment and estimated costs is included in our student manual.
